Phil Wickham’s “What An Awesome God” invites believers to lift their eyes and behold the majesty of the One who reigns over heaven and earth. The lyrics overflow with awe—stars named by His voice, winds and waves obeying His command, and redemption accomplished through the cross. This song calls followers of Christ to remember that worship begins with wonder. When believers slow down long enough to see God’s power on display in creation and salvation, reverence replaces routine. Worship ceases to be performance and becomes holy recognition—our God truly is awesome.
The psalmist declares, “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom” (Psalm 145:3). This verse captures the tension between knowing God and realizing that He can never be fully comprehended. Such mystery is not meant to distance believers from Him, but to draw them nearer. The world often diminishes God to fit human categories, but songs like this restore proper perspective. When Christians declare the greatness of God, faith expands and fear retreats. The same voice that spoke light into existence now speaks peace into troubled hearts. To call Him awesome is to confess His absolute sovereignty and goodness. He is not just powerful—He is personal, present, and worthy of every breath of praise. What an awesome God indeed.

Lord, You are awesome in power and mercy. Fill my heart with awe for who You are, and let my worship reflect the greatness of Your glory.
