The Power Of One

BE THE ONE GOD USES
(Inspired by “The Power of One” performed by Israel Houghton)

Israel Houghton’s “The Power of One” insists that world‑changing work often begins smaller than most expect—with one willing heart. The lyric’s pulse—“it all begins with one”—pulls attention away from crowds and platforms and toward quiet obedience. Scripture echoes this rhythm: a single shepherd boy stepped toward Goliath, one queen risked her position for her people, and one boy’s lunch fed a multitude when placed in the Lord’s hands. In every case, God used ordinary faith to unleash extraordinary grace. The measure of impact is not fame or scale but surrender. When one Christian listens, repents, forgives, or speaks truth in love, the Lord takes that seed and grows what no one could have predicted.

This vision meets everyday life in practical places. In a family, one gracious apology can end a cycle of sharp words. At work, one employee committed to honesty can set a new tone for the team. In the community, one neighbor who shows up—to mow a yard, deliver a meal, or mentor a student—can start a pattern others begin to imitate. Even online, one measured, gentle response can cool a heated thread and point people to Christ. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead indwells believers, enabling ordinary disciples to carry extraordinary hope. Power does not come from human strength; it flows from the presence of God with His people.

Isaiah’s vision in the temple clarifies the call. Overwhelmed by God’s holiness and grace, the prophet heard the Lord ask, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” The right response then remains the right response now: “Here am I. Send me.” Christians do not wait for a crowd to move; they move because Christ is King. Take the next faithful step—pray with someone, give generously, invite a friend to church, reconcile where there is hurt. The world changes one yielded decision at a time when the One who reigns is trusted above all.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for redeeming my life and inviting me into Your work. Give me courage to obey today, wisdom to see the need in front of me, and love that reflects Jesus in word and deed.

APPLICATION
Choose one concrete act of faith today—encourage someone, pray with a neighbor, meet a need, or invite a friend to church—and do it. Share the story with another believer to spark another “one.”
